Intro
For this project the client requested I redesign their packaging for their mochi (asian sticky rice dessert) food product in three different flavors. The vibe they wanted was cute round and bright and much more simplistic and reduced than their original packaging. This was a type only project and the client only allowed very minimal use of illustration and little to zero use of imagery. They also asked if I could include some Japanese writing somewhere on the packaging.

Design Concepting
The flavors I was asked to design were taro, mango and matcha. Taro is a purple root so I chose purple and its lighter tints to make a soft gradient that added to the chill and simplistic theme of the design. I chose a very round and thick font and made a custom "M" for the name of the product. For the slogan (that I also created) I used the same font I used for the title but this time edited certain letters to imitate what the words were describing (such as stretching the "e" in the word stretch or taking a chomp out of the "O" in chomp). For the Japanese element I added two simple hiragana characters that spell out mo-chi. For the illustration I created a simple mochi with a bite taken out of it so as to see the filling and color inside.
I also went ahead and branded the individual packages inside. It would work very well for this company's variety pack so that customers could easily see what flavor they are getting in each mochi.
This project answers the prompt by presenting the client with cute, round, simplistic, colorful, and type only packaging design that outshines their old design. I also included the other flavors on the back of each box. The neatly arranged text gives consumers a clear understanding of what the product is and access to its nutrition facts and ingredients.
